Why has โMade in USAโ been taken off Nordost products and packaging?
Nordost products have always been, and continue to be, designed, engineered, and assembled in the United States. However, in recent years, due to both our own product-line expansion as well as supply shortages, Nordost has begun to proactively source select raw materials from outside of the US.
In expanding our sourcing efforts and diversifying our supply chain, we are further ensuring that our products can be delivered with the consistency and timeliness that our customers expect, notwithstanding future fluctuations in the market. Be assured that the raw material being sourced, regardless of its country of origin, in no way negatively impacts the build quality or performance caliber of our products.
In order to stay in compliance with the most current FTC guidelines, while maintaining this preferred flexible supply chain, we have decided to remove โMade in USAโ labels and artwork on our products as well as their packaging and marketing materials.
CABLES
General Cable Info ( Directionality, Break-in, Maintenance, Length )
What are the minimum cable lengths recommended for Nordost cables?
We suggest minimum lengths to maximize sonic performance and these lengths are where we feel you should start:
Power cords โ 2 meters
Analog interconnects โ 1 meter
Digital interconnects โ 1.5 meters
USBโ1 meter
Ethernetโ2 meters
Tonearm cables โ 1.25 meters
Loudspeaker cables โ 2 meters
What is the best way to arrange extra lengths of cabling?
We do not recommend tightly bundling extra lengths of cables, which may change the electrical characteristics, increasing the capacitance and impedance of the cables. Instead, itโs better to place the cable in a serpentine pattern when possible.
Are audio cables directional?
When cables are manufactured they do not automatically have any directionality. However, as they break in, they acquire directionality.
Small impurities in the conductor act as diodes, allowing signal flow to be better in one direction over time. Regardless of the purity of the metal used, there are diode effects in all conductors. Additionally, the insulation material changes when it is subjected to an electrical field.
All Nordost cables are directional. This is especially true for single ended (RCA) interconnects because the shield is connected at the source (or output) end only.
How long does it take to naturally break cables in?
In a typical system, we recommend at least a few weeks of constant use. However, our Reference-level cables require much more than that.
What occurs during the cable break-in process?
During the break-in process any gasses that were trapped between the insulation and the conductors during manufacturing are dissipated. Additionally, the insulation material charges up. The diode-effect of the conductor will be more pronounced after a minimum of 150 hours of break in. During this time the cable takes on a direction.
What is the best way to break in my cables?
The best way to break in your cables is to have them burned in on the Nordostโs burn-in machine, the VIDAR 2. This is a service that many Authorized Nordost Dealers can provide.
Why is the Vidar 2 better for breaking in cables than breaking in your cables on a playing system?
The VIDAR 2 is designed to put a very wide band signal of varying amplitude through the cables connected to it. During normal course of use, cables such as tonearms and analog interconnects never get a high level of signal. This means it can take a long time for them to break in fully. The VIDAR 2 speeds up this process by the combination of frequencies it puts through the cable. The results from the VIDAR 2 will always be better than any other break- in method used.
How long does break in last?
If a cable has not been used for more than one month, it will benefit from being re-introduced to the VIDAR 2 for optimum performance. The VIDAR 2 has shorter โtouch upโ programs specifically for these occasions. Itโs a good idea to bring your cables back to your local dealer once a year to have them broken in again.
What is the best way to clean and treat audio cables?
The best method to clean your cables is to use a damp cloth to clean the outer jacket. Next, take a clean cloth or paper towel and spray it with ECO3X and wipe down the outer jacket of the cable. This will prevent the build-up of spurious static charges on the cable, which may affect the sound quality.
What do you recommend to clean the connectors on Nordost audio cables?
We recommend any good-quality electrical contact cleaner. Caig Pro Gold and Deoxit are both very good options.
Can I wire my system with cables from different ranges within the Nordost range?
Yes, you can definitely wire your system with a mix of cables from the Nordost range. Nordost cables all have the same design philosophy, so while products improve due to added conductors, gauges, and technologies as they progress up the lines, they all have the same sonic signature. This allows you to choose your cables according to your own personal needs and budget, and upgrade piece by piece as needed and when able.
What improvements do cables bring to a hi-fi system?
As a rule, cables by themselves do not bring anything to your system. However, certain cables can take away a lot from a system. It is Nordostโs goal not to impose any sound or take away any information from the signal transfer. In doing this you will be able to enjoy your system as it is intended to be heard which is a very transformative experience.
What percentage of a systemโs budget should be spent on cabling?
Years ago there was an arbitrary percentage-point that was prescribed as the โrightโ amount to spend on the cabling of a sound system: 15%. However, it is important to note that this number was established before power cords were even considered to be part of an audio system.
More importantly, since peopleโs hifi systems differ so greatly, โthe rightโ amount to spend on a system is very subjective. When you are upgrading your audio cables, regardless of any percentage-point, you should take the inevitable component upgrade into account. You do not want to put yourself in the position of having the perfect ratio of electronics-to-cabling only to upgrade your amplifier to find out that your once appropriate cables no longer have the resolution your newest acquisition requires. The limit in your system should never be the cabling.
Technology
What is Micro Mono-Filament (MMF) and Dual Mono-Filament Technology (DMF)?
Micro Mono-Filament technology refers to Nordostโs patented process of separating the conductor from its FEP insulation. During production, each conductor is intricately and uniformly wrapped in a single strand (Micro) before being encased in an extruded layer of high quality FEP. The process for DMF is very similar, except that instead of a single strand, the conductor is wrapped in a twisted pair (Dual) of FEP Mono-Filament before the extrusion layer. This highly precise process allows every conductor to be surrounded by its own air dielectric. This revolutionary insulation process is directly responsible for the dramatic increase of signal speeds and excellent mechanical damping found in Nordost cables.
What are mechanically tuned lengths?
By analyzing the natural resonances of conductors, we have derived a proprietary formula to determine the optimal length of each cable, according to its unique geometry. By ensuring that the conductors are cut to these specific lengths, we maximize the sonic performance of our cables, eliminating timing errors.
What are HOLO:PLUGยฎ Connectors?
HOLO:PLUGยฎ connectors are low mass, high end, connectors that are designed to seamlessly fit the internal geometry of each individual cable that they house. HOLO:PLUGยฎ connectors are the perfect marriage of electrical and mechanical tuning, allowing Nordost to have complete control of our highest quality interfacesโnot only of the cable itself, but from end to end. HOLO:PLUGยฎ connectors are used on Nordostโs Reference and Supreme Reference Cables.
What is Total Signal Control?
Total Signal Control, or TSC, describes the shielding used on our Supreme Reference cables. TSC allows cables to maintain the integrity of signal transfer while protecting conductors from the electrical pollution produced by RFI and EMI. When paired with our patented HOLO:PLUGยฎ connectors, TSC provides 100% total shield coverage without the rigidity that is associated with other shielded cables.
Power Cords
What is the minimum recommended length for power cords?
The minimum recommended length is 2 meters
Why should I upgrade the power cords supplied with components at purchase?
Manufacturers typically add in the power cords supplied with their components at the last minute. Oftentimes, this power cord is merely supplied as a means to an end, for as little cost as possible, so that the manufacturer can make the intended price-point of their product. As a result, little thought or effort goes into how it may affect the component. For proof of this, next time you are at a hifi show, pay attention to the cables being used in each manufacturerโs room. You will notice that when they want to make their product sound as good as possible, manufacturers opt out of using the power cords they themselves provide at point of purchase.
In what order should you upgrade your power cords?
The most important power cord in your system is the power cord feeding your distribution bar. This should be the first power cord you upgrade. Beyond that, while no two systems are the same (and there may be many variations), we suggest upgrading the rest of your system in the following order: pre-amp, power amp, DAC, phono stage, transports (based on usage).
How do power cords affect your sound system?
Based on the technology provided in the power cord, there can be several sonic effects attributed to power cord upgrades. However, in general, the biggest sonic differences tend to be registered as a change in dynamics (which sometimes disguises itself as a volume change), and in a distinction in imaging and soundstage.
Analog Interconnects
Are Nordost interconnects directional?
Yes, Nordost interconnects are directional. Balanced cables are naturally directional because of the construction of the XLR connectors, but directionality is also a factor for single ended (RCA) interconnects as well. In the construction of a single ended cable, the shield is connected at the source (or output) end only. Directional arrows always point away from the source. For example, from a CD player to a preamplifier or power amplifier, the arrows should point towards the amplifier.
Which is better: short interconnects or short loudspeaker cables?
The signal loss on Nordost cables is very low due to the use of extruded FEP insulation and Micro Mono-Filament technology. As a result, Nordost cables can run over longer distances with less signal loss than regular cables. However, when planning a system set up, it is wise to keep lower level signals, such as tonearm cables and analog interconnects, relatively short. Loudspeaker cables can afford to be longer because more current and voltage is being provided by the power amplifier.
Are all Nordost interconnects shielded?
Yes, all Nordost interconnects are shielded.
Which is better: balanced, XLR or single-ended, RCA terminations?
If your system consists of components using a properly implemented balanced design from the same manufacturer, then XLR cable terminations will sound better. However, if you are using balanced equipment from different manufacturers, the results can vary. In some cases equipment may not be truly balanced. If there is the option, the single-ended RCA will sound best. At the end of the day, itโs system dependent.
Can interconnects be built with a RCA connector on one end and XLR on the other?
No. It is never a good idea to use a cable to try to connect a single ended audio circuit to a balanced circuit. They are very different and the results are never ideal.
Subwoofer Cables
Why do I need a dedicated cable for a subwoofer?
While you can use a traditional analog interconnect to connect your AVR or surround processor to a subwoofer, you can enhance the subwoofers performance with a cable designed for that application. Nordost Subwoofer Cables use larger gauge conductors than standard interconnects so that the bass performance is enhanced. Additionally, the level of shielding makes them the perfect option to reject interference over longer runs.
Can subwoofer cables be ordered in different configurations?
Absolutely. Nordost Blue Heaven Subwoofer Cables can be ordered in straight, Y, and stereo Y to Y configurations. Perfect for whatever scenario you have in your sound system.
iKables
What are iKables used for?
Ikables are a great solution for connecting portable audio products to your stereo system. Most of which have a 3.5mm output jack.
Tonearm Cables
Are Nordost Tonearm Cables directional?
Yes, the arrows on the breakout block of the cable indicate the direction of the signal. When installed, directional arrows should be pointing in the direction of your phono-stage.
How should you attach the Bond Ground Wire on a Tonearm Cable +?
Most turntables and phono-stages are equipped with ground screws on their chassis. Connect the Bond Ground Wire (the wire terminated with spade connectors that is permanently attached to the tonearm cable) to the ground screws on both your turntable and your phono-stage. This connection will bond the two chassis together, creating a secure, low noise connection between the two components.
Why is there an additional grounding wire provided with the Tonearm Cable +?
The Tonearm Cable + is uniquely designed with individually shielded left and right channels, arranged in a twisted pair configuration before being wrapped in an additional layer of shielding to completely eliminate EMI and RFI. In order to ground this shielding, Nordost has provided two detachable Ground Wires with every Tonearm Cable +. These supplementary wires allow you to use the cableโs shield as an additional ground loop prevention when necessary.
How can I determine the best way to use the detachable ground wire in my system?
Step One: Play music without any of the Detachable Ground Wires attached and see how it sounds.
Step Two: Try inserting one of the Detachable Ground Wires to your cable on the end closest to the turntable. Connect the spade of the Detachable Ground Wire to the ground post on your turntable.
Step Three: If you have a ground option on the phono-stage end, disconnect the Detachable Ground Wire from the turntable end of the tonearm cable, and insert it into the phono-stage end instead. Connect the spade of the Detachable Ground Wire to the phono-stage ground, and listen again.
Step Four: Finally (if applicable) insert both Detachable Ground Wires to the two ends of your cable, connect them to ground on the turntable and the phono-stage, and listen one last time.
Based on your findings, configure whichever set-up had the least noise in your particular system.
What length of tonearm cables is recommended?
The standard length of Nordost Tonearm Cables is 1.25 meters. This cable type can run up to 3 meters. However, due to the low level of signal, we would not recommend exceeding this length.
Headphone Cables
Can my detachable headphone cables be re-terminated for use with a different type of headphone?
No. Due to the complex construction of this cable, and the fact that it is mechanically tuned, it is not possible to have headphone cables re-terminated.
Ethernet Cables
How important is the category of an Ethernet cable?
Whether the Ethernet cable is a Cat 5, Cat 6, or Cat 7 is less important than most people think, since all of them can handle the required signal. The build quality and amount of shielding are typically more important design elements.
Are Nordost Ethernet cables shielded?
Yes, shielding is something we took to new levels when we designed our Ethernet cables because of how susceptible Ethernet cables are to RF interference. The twisted pairs inside have their own shielding as well as a dual braid shield over the cable assembly.
My speakers use Ethernet cables to connect to the pre-amp but the cable is too stiff to bend up to the connection port. Is there a solution?
Yes, we designed our Heimdall 2 Ethernet cable exactly for this application, as well as devices that have rack or storage limitations. The Heimdall 2 Ethernet cable can be ordered with 90 degree connectors! Additionally, the 90 degree connectors can be ordered in 4 different clocked positions so the cable can exit the connector in 4 different directions.
Are Nordost Ethernet cables directional?
Yes, from a signal flow perspective they are. Two of the four twisted pairs inside the cable are fixed in a single direction so directionality comes into play even with the other two twisted pairs being bi-directional.
Digital Interconnects
Why are Nordost digital cables superior in performance?
It is an accepted practice in the cable industry to have an impedance variation as high as 15% and still rate the cable impedance as 75 ohm or 110 ohms. However, Nordost digital cables are within 1% tolerance of the correct impedance which is either 75 ohm or 110 ohm AES/EBU. Nordost digital cables all use Micro or Dual Mono-Filament technology to remove timing errors and jitter. The result is superb performance you can hear.
Why do Nordost 75 ohm digital cables come with BNC to RCA adaptors?
The correct termination for true 75 ohm impedance is a BNC connector due to the mechanical spacing of the center conductor relative to the outer insulation. We cannot alter the laws of physics. We have found that keeping the integrity of the 75 ohm cable with a BNC termination and using an RCA adaptor always provides better sonic results. It also means the cable can be used easily as a clocking cable, which typically uses BNC connections for superior performance.
USB Cables
Why does the USB 2.0 specification limit length to 5 meters while Nordost offers USB cables as long as 7 meters?
Nordost cables utilize high purity FEP insulation with Micro Mono-Filament and Dual Mono-Filament technology as well as advanced shielding techniques which allow our cables to perform to spec even at extended lengths with no loss of information.
A digital signal composed of 1s and 0s is not subject to analog signal loss, so how can high quality USB cables make a difference in sound?
The actual signal flowing through a USB cable is analog in nature. It is composed of high-speed square waves that represent 1s and 0s. Losses in the shape and speed of those square waves can cause DACs, for example, to misinterpret the conversion to an analog musical signal and cause distortion.
HDMI/4K Cables
What makes Nordostโs HDMI cable unique?
Unlike other HDMI cables on the market, Nordost HDMI cables are made in the USA. They are DPL certified for high performance, and are the only HDMI cables that use Micro Mono-Filament technology and specialized cable geometry to shorten the signal path.
Is the Blue Heaven HDMI Cable 1.4 compliant?
Yes, the Blue Heaven is 1.4 compliant out to 3 meters.
Do HDMI cables come in different specs?
Yes, Nordost cables are manufactured to HDMI 2.0 version specifications.
Speaker Cables
Which is better: short interconnects or short loudspeaker cables?
The signal loss on Nordost cables is very low due to the use of extruded FEP insulation and Micro Mono-Filament technology. As a result, Nordost cables can run over longer distances with less signal loss than regular cables. However, when planning a system set up, it is wise to keep lower level signals, such as tonearm cables and analog interconnects, relatively short. Loudspeaker cables can afford to be longer because more current and voltage is being provided by the power amplifier.
Can you bend Nordost speaker cables around corners?
Yes, because Nordost cables are made with extruded FEP, they can be bent and folded without delaminating or damaging the insulation.
Can you install Nordost loudspeaker cables under rugs or carpets?
Yes, Nordost loudspeaker cables are made with extruded FEP. They are extremely durable and tough and can be run under carpets and rugs.
Why are Nordost speaker cables flat?
Nordost Loudspeaker Cables are flat because the extruded FEP method of manufacturing that we employ allows us to precisely space conductors with a very high degree of precision. The flat nature of Nordostโs cables enables the following benefits: an increase in signal transfer speeds, the minimization of strand interaction, the optimization of the mechanical spacing and layout of conductors, a decrease in skin effect, and a reduction of physical surface contact.
What is the best termination for loudspeaker cables?
In our Leif and Norse 2 cable ranges, we typically recommend Nordost banana Z-plug. We have been using this connector for many years due to its low mass design and beryllium copper construction. However in our Reference and Supreme Reference ranges, we recommend using our gold-plated, HOLO:PLUGยฎ spade connectors which are mechanically tuned to offer superior sonic performance.
Bi-Wire Jumper Cables
What is the purpose of Norse 2 & Reference Bi-Wire Jumpers?
These jumpers are designed to replace the metal strips commonly found on bi-wire speakers. They are mechanically tuned and improve sound quality dramatically.

QBASE Mark III
What is Star Earth technology?
In addition to traditional Star Grounding, our technology introduces a small ground impedance between every output relative to the primary earth socket to create a directionality for noise associated with the ground, directing it to a single clean ground terminal. This minimizes noise induced from the ground affecting the AC supply without any form of in-line filtering or active circuitry.
What should I plug into the “Primary Earth” of the QBASE?
Plug the component with the most connections into the Primary Earth outlet. In many systems this is either the preamp or integrated amp.
My preamp has two or more separate power supplies. How do I connect it to a QBASE?
Please contact Nordost technical support at info@nordost.com for detailed information.
How do I connect two or more QBASE units together?
Connect QBASE #1 to the wall using your best available power cord. Then connect QBASE #2 directly into the outlet labeled “Primary Earth” on QBASE #1. Once these steps are completed, you can connect your remaining components as you normally would on both QBASE units.
How should I position the QBASE Mark III in my sound system?
Place the QBASE Mark III on a stable, solid surface, ideally on a dedicated shelf. For the best sonic results, the QBASE Mark III should be used with the QRT Stand Mount and Sort Kones.

How should I audition QRT Plug-ins?
For auditioning purposes, it is best to listen to the QRT Plug-ins in product pairs. We suggest auditioning the QWAVE or QVIBE with either the QSINE or QKOIL.
Step 1: Listen to your system โas isโ to familiarize yourself with how it sounds.
Step 2: Choose a track of music and play it for ~20-30 seconds.
Step 3: Insert one QRT Plug-in of your choice into any free outlet in your distribution bar and replay your track of music.
Step 4: While keeping your chosen QRT Plug-in in the system, insert a different, additional plug-in of your choice into a second, free outlet and replay the same track.
Step 5: Insert an additional unit of both varieties (so that you have two plug-ins of each) into free outlets in your distribution bar and replay that same track of music again.
Step 6: Remove all QRT Plug-in devices from your distribution block and replay the same track of music one last time.
QPOINT
How do I position the QPOINT in relation to my components?
In most circumstances, the QPOINT should be placed under the component that you are trying to affect, with the black dispersion plate pointed up, towards the component (your component may need to be supported using Sort Kones). However, the best placement is determined on a component-by-component basis. For example: If you are pairing a QPOINT with a component that is constructed using a thick, metal chassis and a comparatively thin top covering, you will get better results placing the QPOINT on top of the component, with the black dispersion plate facing down, towards the component. The position of the QPOINT under the component can also be optimized. A good starting point would be the โbusiestโ part of the device โ internal images of all electronic equipment can be easily found online โ but moving and rotating the QPOINT under the device will have a slight effect on its performance.
Where do I place the QPOINT in my system for it to work most effectively?
We suggest that you start by placing the QPOINT under or on top of your preamplifier (or integrated amplifier if applicable), followed by your digital components, then your analog source, and finally your power amplifier(s). However, the results can be system dependent. You should experiment with the placement of your QPOINT to determine what is most beneficial in your unique system.
What do modes I and II on the QPOINT signify?
The QPOINT was designed with two modes, which can be differentiated by colored LED lights: Mode I (Blue) and Mode II (Green). These modes cause the QPOINT to emit fields at two slightly different patterns (or bpms). To determine which mode serves you and your components best, you should experiment between the two, trying out both modes with different components, as results vary according to components and personal preferences.
Can I use more than one QPOINT per component?
Yes, feel free to use multiple QPOINTs per component. However, never stack your QPOINTs on top of one another. When the dispersion plate is obstructed, it limits the effectiveness of the device.
Do QPOINT units require a separate power cord?
No, the QPOINT is supplied with its own DC power cord which is attached to a switch mode power supply. However, if you would like to significantly upgrade the performance of your QPOINT, Nordost offers a QSOURCE Linear Power Supply that requires a separate QSOURCE DC Cable.
What can I expect to hear when auditioning the QPOINT?
- Enhanced musical organization, focus, and coherence
- A controlled sense of dynamic freedom and force to the sound
- The natural quality of the instruments will shine through, as well as vocal separation and three-dimensionality
- The two modes of operation will emphasize slightly different aspects of the musical reproduction
How should I audition the QPOINT (with the QSOURCE)?
Step 1: Place one QPOINT under either the preamp or integrated amp, and a second QPOINT under your source. Pre-set to either โMode Iโ or โMode IIโ
Step 2: Play a track for ~40 seconds โas isโ
Step 3: Power on both QPOINTs by plugging in the provided power supplies to a distribution bar and replay your selected track of music.
Step 4: Select a second track and listen for ~40 seconds.
Step 5: Detach power supplies from both QPOINTs (and the distribution bar). Use two QSOURCE DC Cables to connect both QPOINTs to the 5V
inputs on the QSOURCE. Power on the QSOURCE and listen to the second track again.
Step 5A (optional): Repeat the track with the modes set differently.
Step 5B (optional): Repeat the track replacing the SMPS from a Roon Nucleus or switch with the QSOURCE.
Step 6: Take away the QSOURCE and QPOINTS by powering down the QSOURCE and listen to the system again.
QSOURCE
Can the QSOURCE be used with components that run on AC power?
No, the QSOURCE is only designed to replace power supplies that are used with components that run on DC power.
Where should I position the QSOURCE?
The QSOURCE can be positioned anywhere on or around your audio rack in a well-ventilated space. Make sure that the vents both on the top and bottom of the unit are unobstructed at all times.
Do QSOURCE units need to be grounded?
The QSOURCE needs to be grounded via a power cord. However, it will also benefit from an additional parallel ground through a QKORE, using a binding post designated for the primary side of the power supply (marked โQBASE GROUNDโ). However, if the QSOURCE is being powered through a QBASE that has already received a parallel ground through a QKORE, do not additionally ground the QSOURCE directly to the QKORE.
Which components should be powered with the QSOURCE?
While the QSOURCE serves as an upgraded power supply for Nordostโs QPOINT Resonance Synchronizers, it was also designed as a replacement for the noise-inducing, inconsistent switch mode power supplies that feed music servers, network switches, routers, NAS drives, DC phono stages, DC DACs etc.
Do QSOURCE units require an additional power cord?
Yes, the QSOURCE requires a power cord in order to connect it to either a wall socket (with earthing connections) or a power distribution block. For best results, we recommend using a Nordost power cord in combination with a QBASE.
What can I expect to hear when auditioning the QSOURCE?
Dramatically lower levels of background noise
Any device it powers will produce a much wider/deeper soundstage with more clarity, ambience and resolution
Music reproduction will have more dynamic range and will seem more nuanced
QSOURCE DC Cable
What terminations are available for the QSOURCE DC Cable?
QSOURCE DC Cables are available with three terminations: LEMO to LEMO (for QPOINT), LEMO to LEMO (for QNET), LEMO to 5mm x 2.1mm barrel connector, and LEMO to 5mm x 2.5mm barrel connector. The LEMO to LEMO connectors are intended for use with Nordostโs QPOINT Resonance Synchronizers. When connecting any other device to the QSOURCE, verify the required termination for your device from the respective manufacturerโs website.
Which QSOURCE DC Cable do I need?
We recommend the original QSOURCE DC Cable when connecting QPOINTs to the QSOURCE. However, when being used with other devices, you should consider the Premium QSOURCE DC Cables, as it results in significant upgrades to performance.
QNET
When using a streaming solution with multiple devices, which ports should be used on the QNET?
The network traffic between devices on your local network has to be taken into account when selecting the best port on the QNET. Typically, when using multiple devices for streaming there is intense exchange of information between them, which may cause delays and dropouts if using a 100 Mbps port. We recommend that in such cases, at least the main control device, for example the Roon Core, be connected to one of the 1 Gbps ports on the QNET.
Can I daisy-chain multiple network switches including the QNET?
While it is possible to daisy-chain multiple network switches, you shouldnโt. Daisy-chaining multiple network devices adds delay, noise, and traffic. Therefore, it should be avoided. For. best performance, the QNET should always be physically connected to the main router in your network via an S/FTP Ethernet cable, preferably a Nordost Ethernet cable of your choice.
What can I expect to hear when auditioning the QNET?
- Dramatically quiet and โblackโ background
- Extreme low noise levels allow one to hear nuances, timbre, and decays like never before
- Instrumental recognition becomes shockingly accurate
- The listener will be rewarded with a much more immersive and life-like experience from the music
How should I audition the QNET (with the QSOURCE)?
Step 1: Place the QNET on a stable surface, where air can flow around it, and power up the QNET with the power supply that it comes with.
Step 2: Using a Nordost ethernet cable, connect your streamer/server/NAS drive to Ports 4 or 5 (please note that depending on how many devices are part of the audio chain and how much data is being exchanged between them, it may be necessary to use at least one of the additional gigabit ports to avoid any dropouts or delays.)
Step 3: Play a track for ~40 seconds
Step 4: Upgrade the power source by unplugging the switch mode power supply that comes with the QNET and connect the QNET to the QSOURCE, using the output labeled โAโ, set at 9V.
Step 5: Once the QSOURCE is connected and turned on, play the same track again.
QKORE
Can I connect multiple audio components to each binding post of my QKORE unit?
If you are using a QKORE3 or a QKORE6, you have the option of connecting up to two components to each โGROUNDโ or โMONOGROUNDโ binding post, by using both a QKORE Wire terminated with a banana connector, and a QKORE Wire terminated with a spade connector on each binding post. If you have a QKORE1 or a QKORE6, you may also connect multiple QBASE distribution blocks to the binding post labeled โQBASE GROUNDโ. However, connecting more than one component or QBASE to a single binding post will compromise the performance of the unit. Please note: You should NEVER connect both a distribution block and a component onto the same binding post at the same time.
Is the QKORE1 only compatible with the QBASE, or can it be used with other distribution bars in the market?
The QBASE is designed so that when the QKORE is attached through its binding post, the ground pin of the input is drained out BEFORE any contaminants on the AC line reach any components. If the distribution bar you would like to use with the QKORE has a similar design to that, it will work fine. However, we cannot speak for how other manufacturers design their distribution bars, so we cannot guarantee the same results.
Can I connect a QBASE into a QKORE3 Unit, or connect an audio component (CD Player, Amplifier etc.) into a QKORE1 Unit?
You should not. The โGROUNDโ position on both the QKORE1 and QKORE6 is only intended to be used with a QBASE (or comparable power distribution bar/power conditioner with dedicated grounding posts). This position is designed to address problems on the primary side, grounding the AC side of your electronics. All other positions are designed to address problems on the DC, secondary side, ground.
You should never connect an audio componentโs DC, secondary side, ground to the same post as where the AC, primary side, ground is connected.
How can I connect a component to my QKORE Unit if I do not have any open outlets?
Unfortunately, if there are no open outlets on the back of your component, you will not be able to connect it to your QKORE Unit.
Can I use Sort Kones with my QKORE Unit?
Yes. To use Sort Kones with your QKORE Unit, unscrew the rubber, stabilizing feet and remove the washers to reveal Sort Kone depressions. Sort Kones can be arranged in the depressions found beneath the stabilizing feet (tip-side up). You can use either three or four Sort Kones.
Do QKORE units require power cords?
No. Nordost QKOREs are passive units, so they do not require any power cords.
Can the binding posts labeled โMONOGROUNDโ on the QKORE6 unit be used for other components, or are they only to be used with monoblocks?
The MONOGROUND binding posts on the QKORE6 are designed specifically for use with monoblocks; however, if your system does not include monoblocks, and you need to connect other audio components that address secondary ground, it’s better to use the MONOGROUND binding posts than to connect multiple QKORE Wires on the same (non-MONOGROUND) position.
Can I connect my loudspeakers to a QKORE unit?
No. Do NOT connect your loudspeakers to a QKORE unit. This could result in a short circuit to your amplifier.
Can I connect my monoblocks to my QKORE3?
Yes, but in this case, for optimal performance, you should leave the third binding post empty.
What can I expect to hear when auditioning the QKORE?
- Noise is stripped away from the system, imparting a blacker background, which allows you to appreciate details and nuances in the music
- Improvements in pacing, timing coherence, and natural decays in the music
- Extension of the soundstage, presenting a livelier presentation with stronger image outlines
- Improved accuracies in both the timbral and bass region, opening up the entire dynamic range
How should I audition the QKORE?
Step 1: Listen to your system โas isโ to familiarize yourself with how it sounds.
Step 2: Choose a track of music and play it for ~40 seconds.
Step 3: Connect your AC distribution block to the QKORE1, or the โQBASE Groundโ binding post of a QKORE6, and listen to the same section of the same track again.
Step 4: Select a second track and listen for ~40 seconds.
Step 5: Replay your track of music and note any differences in performance. Connect your source and preamplifier/amplifier, or integrated amp, from any of their free outputs to the โGroundโ 1-3 (or โMono Groundโ) binding posts of the QKORE3 or QKORE6. (When possible, it is best to insert your QKORE Wire into an unused digital output). Listen to the same section of the track played in Step 3 again.
Step 6: Unplug all QKORE Wires and listen to the same track played in Steps 3 and 4 again.
QKORE Wire
Do you have to use QKORE Wires to connect QKORE units to your system components, or can you use other cable brands?
The QKORE Wire is an integral part of the QKORE design. QKORE units have been designed and developed with Nordostโs proprietary Mono-Filament technology and solid core conductors found in the QKORE Wire. Other cable brands can be used, but the performance will not be the same, nor will the result be as predictable or as profound, as it is when the QKORE Wire is used as intended.
QLINE
Can the QLINE only be used with the QBASE?
While the QLINE was designed to be used in conjunction with the QBASE, it can be used with any AC distribution bar that offers a binding post for ground purposes.

Can I mix and match various types of Sort Kones?
Yes, you can.
How many Sort Kones should I use under my components?
You should use a minimum of 3 pieces under each component. However, adding additional Sort Kones will give a noticeable improvement.
How should I place my Sort Kones?
For the best results you should identify areas in the component you are addressing that are subject to vibration. For example, if you are placing Sort Kones under a CD player, you will want to place one under the spindle platter, the second under the tracking motor, and a third under the power input. It is best to search google images of the component you are looking to support, or go to the manufacturerโs website to see where these should be placed.
How much weight does the Sort Kone support?
Each Sort Kone can support up to 100lbs, which, collectively, allows them to support virtually any audio component.
Sort Lift
How many Sort Lift pairs do you need per meter-length of loudspeaker cable?
Sort Lifts are intended to be spaced between 0.5 and 1 meter apart in distance, so that the cable does not come in contact with the floor. The spacing may depend on the weight and flexibility of the cable being supported.
Can the Sort Lift be used with other cable brands?
While designed to be used primarily with Nordost cables, any audio cable will benefit from using the Sort Lift. Noticeable effects include an elevated sound stage, improved dynamic range, increased detail in low frequency reproductions and more natural timbre to the sound.
